Chryse Planitia

From UN0P Chronicles

Chryse Planitia is a vast, smooth plain on Mars[1], situated just north of the equator. Known as one of the most featureless areas on the Red Planet, it is thought to have been an extensive ocean in the past. This plain holds historical significance as the landing site for several early Martian probes, including Viking 1 in 1976.

Presently, Chryse Planitia hosts numerous Dustwalker settlements, such as Aethelwind, showcasing their tenacity. The constant winds shaping the Martian terrain have formed dunes and yardangs, presenting challenges for the Dustwalker communities, which require specially designed living quarters and greenhouses. Zephyr Station is primarily a research outpost dedicated to the study of Martian atmospheric dynamics.

  • Aurora Terra (Latin: "Dawn of Earth"), established in 2365, is a Martian agricultural settlement located within the Chryse Planitia region. With a population of roughly 3,250 in 2525, it serves as a critical hub for terraforming efforts on Mars.
  • Vallis Haven in the Chryse Planitia region, is a marvel of human adaptation and engineering, nestled within the vast canyon systems of Mars. Established in 2265, it serves as a shining example of the pioneering spirit that characterizes humanity’s expansion into the solar system.
  • Oasis Nova is a pioneering city located in the Chryse Planitia region of Mars, established in the year 2265.

In 2004, the Martian rovers Spirit and Opportunity touched down in the Chryse Planitia region, uncovering many aspects of Mars' geological past. They discovered signs that the area may have contained water, suggesting it could have supported microbial life. Ongoing exploration of Chryse Planitia remains vital for understanding Mars' history and the possibility of life in its past or present.

  1. Mars is divided into 66 regions, each with its own unique characteristics and communities. These regions are governed by the Supreme Martian Authority - SMA, a centralized government tasked with ensuring the welfare and prosperity of the planet's inhabitants.
